Its mission is to position Rio de Janeiro as a strategic player in international relations, promoting:

Sustainable development

International cooperation

Cultural
exchange

Our Global Actions

Since its creation, NURIRJ has been actively expanding international dialogue through events, meetings, and agreements with global impact.

Symposium on the Carbon Market

Aligned with the global sustainability agenda, NURIRJ hosted a Symposium on the Carbon Market, bringing together experts, parliamentarians, private sector representatives, and environmental organizations to discuss Brazil’s path toward a green economy.

The event focused on the role of the State of Rio de Janeiro in the transition to a cleaner energy matrix, highlighting public policies, investment opportunities, and carbon offset mechanisms.
This initiative reinforces NURIRJ’s commitment to sustainable innovation and to building a more balanced and environmentally conscious future.

Meetings with Consulates

NURIRJ has been strengthening international dialogue through strategic meetings with diplomatic representatives from various countries.
The meetings held with the Consulates of Russia, Angola, Italy, and Spain aim to expand bilateral cooperation, explore investment opportunities, promote cultural exchange, and discuss joint solutions to global challenges.

These diplomatic engagements represent a significant step toward building a more globally connected Rio de Janeiro — open to partnerships that drive sustainable development and social progress.

G20 Roundtable – Circular Economy

As part of the official G20 agenda in Brazil, NURIRJ actively participated in a roundtable on Circular Economy, bringing together government officials, researchers, and civil society representatives to explore innovative ways of turning waste into resources.

The event highlighted sustainable initiatives, international partnerships, and the role of regional governments in promoting more responsible and regenerative economic models.
NURIRJ’s presence in this global forum reinforces its commitment to building global solutions through local action — connecting Rio de Janeiro to key international discussions on the environment and sustainable development.
